About Me

Suzanne Corcoran

My name is Suzanne Corcoran, LCSW-C and I am a licensed clinical social worker with a private practice in Rockville, Maryland. I received my Master's Degree in Social Work from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. in 1984. Since that time, my career has spanned a variety of public and private mental health agencies before I moved into private practice.

My mission is to help my clients attract, develop and maintain healthy, satisfying relationships with their spouses/partners, their children and other family members, as well as their friends and coworkers. I am committed to helping people grow in self-knowledge and self-acceptance so they may effectively negotiate their needs at work and at home with joy.

At my office in Rockville, Maryland, I specialize in couples counseling. The Imago communications exercises I teach are very helpful in creating a safe and calm environment for couples to be able to speak their minds to each other without anger.

For individuals, I treat anxiety and depression which helps to resolve painful problems that prevent closeness in relationships. I also use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprogramming (EMDR) in my practice help people who need help resolving traumatic experiences, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

My continuing education efforts involve hundreds of hours over the years to keep up to date with the most modern cutting edge treatment methods available.

I am a clinical member of Imago Relationships International (IRI), and the local association of Mid-Atlantic Imago Relationship Therapists (MAIT.) Continuing to work within the family therapy and Imago models allows me to promote the Imago ideals of consciousness, compassion and acceptance in marriage. I have been married to my husband Skip since 1986 and we both have taken much pride in having seen their two children through to adulthood.
