Individual Counseling

Therapist in Maryland Suzanne Corcoran
The pressures of life can sometimes seem complicated and relentless, making us feel like we are lurching from one crisis to another without sufficient understanding or resources to solve them.

Have you felt overwhelmed with feelings of depression or anxiety or find yourself unable to stop yourself from behaving in ways that are harmful to you or your loved ones? These are some of the situations that may impel someone to seek counseling.

People see a counselor and enter therapy because they feel lost or stuck in place in some way. With a good therapist, the client feels intrigued by the self-discoveries made and begins to feel more hopeful, decisive and energetic - plus their original symptoms go away.

Psychotherapy is not about giving advice. It is a two-way dialog between the client and the therapist and not a teaching session. It is about discovering what may be triggering the undesired symptoms of emotional distress. It is a safe place to conduct this discovery and then, with the therapist, uncover real strategies to make changes for the better.

In therapy you and your therapist form a working partnership to identify the issues you need to address, explore your options, and to develop goals and a specific way to achieve them. You discover your own strengths and unleash your own resources to create the life you want to have.

I am a psychotherapist interested in helping my clients make the changes they need to achieve what they want. I help them change old habits, old ways of thinking, old judgments, expectations, relationships or else effect change in any other problem area. This can be hard to do without the help of a committed and caring therapist.

Here is a short list of the kinds of symptoms that I have had success in treating with my clients:

• Relationship Issues
• Panic Attacks
• Phobias
• Trauma / Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
• Grief and Loss
• Substance Abuse / Addiction Recovery
• Adult Child of Alcoholics (ACOA)

Please call me at my direct number at my office in Rockville, Maryland at 301-272-1320 to find out more about how I can help you.
